The August 2019 BayNet anonymous user survey is done and we have a total of 91 members who took the time to share their thoughts This is an awesome response and we really appreciate you taking the time to let us know what you think.
Some of the results were expected and there were some interesting surprises as well. All of the survey responses are included in the pdf file below and you are welcome to dive into the data and come to your own conclusions. We are digesting the results and will factor all of this input into our planning for our repeater system and club activities.
One of our favorite comments was ...
"I also feel like no one even knows what BayNet does (besides have some repeaters) or how to get involved. I know there's a shadowy cabal of seemingly nice folks that run some repeaters, an email list, a yearly conference, and sometimes organize activities"
While this is a pretty accurate observation, we do make a serious attempt to explain who we are and what we do at our various events and web site. Having said that, this is a great question and deserves an answer now. Simply put...

- BayNet started out as a privately owned ham radio repeater system spun out of the Cactus Intertie.
- We currently run 4 FM repeaters and 3 digital repeaters (DMR, Fusion, D-STAR) at 2 repeater sites covering the San Francisco Bay Area.
- The repeater system is open to everyone. The system tends to attract a lot of technical minded hams but *everyone* is welcome.
- We maintain a very strict no jerk policy. If you want to cause trouble, hit the road.
- Over the years we attracted more and more users and what was our little repeater system for a few friends has turned into a full blown club, or better yet, a community. We don't have monthly meetings where we talk about the budget or our health issues. We get together when we can to do stuff. We help each other out in our common love of ham radio. We were all noobies at one point and someone helped us learn the ropes. We honor our elmers as we pay it forward.
- We jokingly say that we run things as a benevolent monarchy. That cut's the red tape and allows us to get things done.
- We take donations to support the on-going expenses of the club but the vast majority of hardware in the system was paid for by a few people and made available for everyone to use for free.
- We have expanded our activities to include the annual BayCon radio conference, training classes, and field operating events.
- We are always looking for volunteers to help with club projects or to lead an activity.
